Bleaching

Whitening the teeth, Tooth Whitening, Teeth Whitening, Teeth whitening costs, Zoom teeth whiteningBleaching is one of the most common procedures of dental cosmetics. It brightens teeth that are discolored, stained, or have been darkened because of injury or drinking habits. Any tooth, even those that have had root canal surgery, can receive bleaching treatment. This can be done by a dentist in the dental clinic or at home.

If you have following concerns about your teeth

BleachingIntrinsic Stains (Internal stains): This means the stain occurs from within the tooth. This type of stain cannot be removed by brushing and flossing and sometimes bleaching may not be effective. Some causes of intrinsic staining are injury to the tooth, certain medications (such as tetracycline) taken during tooth formation stage or an excess fluoride ingested during the formation of teeth.

EXTRINSIC STAINS (External stains): This is staining of the tooth surface. Some sources of extrinsic stains are cigarettes, cigars, paan masala , coffee, tea, or foods that contain a lot of spices. This type of staining can sometimes be removed by good tooth brushing habits or by professional oral prophylaxis (scaling).

Occasionally people experience temporary discomfort during the bleaching treatment, such as tooth sensitivity. These symptoms are transient & disappear within one to three days after completion of the treatment. It is important that the manufacturer’s directions are followed precisely. Overall, tooth bleaching under professional supervision is an effective method for whitening the teeth.

Instructions for Home Bleaching

Whitening the teeth, Tooth Whitening, Teeth Whitening, Teeth whitening costs, Zoom teeth whiteningBleaching is used to enhance your smile by brightening your existing natural teeth. Bleaching will not make crowns, Veneers/Laminates, bonding or existing fillings lighter. If you bleach and have these type of restorations in your smile line you may want to have these changed after you bleach. When you start to bleach we typically have you bleach your upper teeth first when you are bleaching both upper & lower teeth. This will provide you with a comparison so you know just how much your teeth are whitening. Bleaching usually takes 1-2weeks for the complete result. We cannot predict the exact level of shade changes you will have with bleaching, but it will always make your teeth lighter.

Instructions

  • Brush and floss teeth thoroughly prior to placing the tray in your mouth.
  • Place small drop of gel in tray at each tooth site where whitening is desired.
  • Seat tray completely and firmly onto teeth.
  • Wipe off excess gel with toothbrush or clean finger.
  • Trays are to be worn overnight.
  • When trays are removed, rinse with cool water and remove residual material and store in case. Keep your trays out of the sunlight and heat. Excessive heat can melt the trays. Do not store them in your car during the warm summer months.
  • Brush and rinse remaining gel from teeth after Bleaching.
  • Remove tray prior to eating.
  • You will have enough material to bleach both upper and lower teeth for 1-2 weeks

In-house/In-surgery Tooth Whitening

We offer the most advanced technique of Teeth Whitening (Bleaching) providing you with clean white teeth in just one sitting.

In-house or In-surgery tooth whitening is as the name says. This treatment is carried out in a dental clinic rather than at home.

The benefits of this treatment include a noticeable improvement in your teeth in a short span of time. Bleaching treatment leads to whitening of the teeth that are yellow, pale or have been discolored due to many reasons. In fact, many patients report quite dramatic results after the treatment.

  • The dentist will record the current state of your teeth either by taking a digital photograph i.e. before treatment pictures.
  • Protection of gums is important; therefore we cover them with a protective gel or cotton material to protect them from any splashes of bleach. Eyes are protected from the laser beam or bleach by wearing goggles.
  • Your dentist will then apply a whitening gel to your teeth. This gel contains a high concentration of peroxide which helps to bleach the teeth white.
  • Then a small handheld light or laser is used which emits a beam onto your teeth and so stimulates the bleaching process. This has the effect of speeding the process up. This process can take up to an hour.
  • Once this is done the dentist will wash off the whitening gel before reviewing the final result. This involves taking a photograph i.e. after treatment pictures.
  • In-surgery Teeth whitening costs more than a home tooth whitening kit but it is quicker and the results are immediate. Some patients opt to have a home kit combined with a deep bleaching session at a dental clinic. Any treatment under specialist guidance is the best.

One difference between this and a home kit is that the bleaching agent used is much stronger in the clinical treatment. An in-house whitening gel contains a higher level of peroxide concentrate than the home based ones. As a result of this, tooth whitening is something which should be carried out under dental supervision.

n-house tooth whitening uses hydrogen peroxide whereas a home tooth whitening kit will use carbamide peroxide.

Laser teeth whitening

Bleaching - Whitening the teeth, Tooth Whitening, Teeth Whitening, Teeth whitening costsYour dentist will apply a whitening gel (bleaching compound) to your teeth before using a small handheld laser to activate the bleaching process. The small but powerful laser enables the gel to break through the enamel and so whiten the teeth.

The advantage of this is that it can speed things up and give you a nice white smile in an hour.

Light assisted teeth whitening

This follows the same procedure as above but the one difference is that the dentist will use a light source to activate the whitening gel.

There are three procedures which use a light beam which are marketed as follows

  • Enlighten teeth whitening
  • Zoom teeth whitening
  • BriteSmile teeth whitening
